HealthMap: Global Disease Alert Map
If you are interested in keeping up with global health news, be sure to check out HealthMap. This innovative and interactive online map serves as a comprehensive news resource on the latest disease outbreaks worldwide.
The map itself, powered by Google, is easy to navigate and allows the user to zoom in on geographical areas. Users can select from a wide variety of diseases to view. Once the user has selected at least one disease, HealthMap will indicate where that disease has occurred within the last 30 days. Users can link to complete news stories regarding each disease outbreak.
Information on HealthMap is compiled from a variety of data sources, including news sources, electronic reporting systems (such as ProMED-mail), and offical alerts via the World Health Organization.
